Phuck the Towel
It’s time for pots and pans. We saw Chrissie Carpenter’s first performance in front of the thunderous Citizens Bank Park crowd for game 1 of the NLDS. He folded like many other pitchers before him, including C.C. Sabathia and Derek Lowe. Friday brings Game 5. This calls for drastic measures.
Jimmy Rollins isn’t the only person to mention the quiet crowd at CBP on Sunday night. Beat writers tweeted about it. Fans that had been there both Saturday and Sunday have reported first hand that the park was quiet once the Phils fell behind. Some blame it on the long day and the Eagles disastrous loss to the 49ers. The reason behind the silence isn’t so important. It’s over and cannot be repeated in Game 5.
The security people at the gate aren’t gonna allow fans to bring in pots and pans to distract Carpenter along with the annoying “Chrisssssssie” chants that need to be echoed through the park. Us fans need to be resourceful. Drop the rally towels. Sure, it looks good on TV, but it’s not distracting in such a way that rapid motion behind a basketball net might distract a shooter.
The fans need to be loud and get into the Cardinals’ heads. They need to know they aren’t welcome. Feet need to be stomped. Hands need to be clapped. Metal shelving around the Standing Room Only area along the infield needs to be pounded upon.
There’s one motto for this game 5….WE NEED TO BE LOUD, DROP THE TOWEL!
