New Music: Crosses

Another Tuesday has come.  That means more records have been released.  This week’s release schedule is kind of slim.  However, one decent record stood out to me.  Crosses, the side project of Deftone’s Chino Moreno.  Here’s a classic Deftone’s track to refresh your memory if the name doesn’t ring any of your bells.

Crosses takes Chino into a more electric direction.  The new album combines five new songs with songs from the band’s previous EP releases.  The vibe of the release is a moody, at time melancholy, trippy experience with moments of the band’s metal influences bursting through.  Chino may be under the mary jane influence for this stuff, but it works. Some of the record feels like a collaboration between Massive Attack and the Deftones. The album has a nice fuzzy and haunting feel to it.  It’s solid to put on while working, smoking on the couch or playing a bit of FIFA on the couch.
