Reaction to Malcolm Jenkins Signing….from New Orleans

malcolm-jenkins-saints-safety-743b7040f180f435_largeThe opinions of Eagles fans are split concerning the signing of free agent safety Malcolm Jenkins.  Team Frustration wanted a bigger name at safety such as Bryd or Ward.  Team Eagles trust the front office and say wait and see.

While most of us in the Philadelphia area know very little about Jenkins abilities, I figured let’s check out what the fans in New Orleans think about losing Jenkins.

I scoped out a story or two about the Jenkins signing from the Times-Picayune in New Orleans and gathered some comments.  The consensus seems to be that fans are sad to lose a “good guy” go, but few are worried about losing his football skills in the New Orleans Saints’ secondary.  They seem to like adding a second “s” into dis(s)appointed in NOLA.

Check’em out some of them, even Robert E Lee chimed in:

Glad to hear Jenkins is gone and we finally have a real playmaking free safety in Byrd who can make interceptions. Jenkins had 2 ints. in like 3 years and was always a step too late. He didn’t understand situation football like a true star as evidenced by his dumb decision to press the speedy Vernon Davis at the line of scrimmage in the 2011 playoffs with 40 seconds left. That poor decision cost us a chance to host the NFC Championship game and go to another Superbowl. His attitude after blowing that game was nonchalant so I’m glad he’s gone. Finally having a Darren Sharper-type player again at free safety will make all the difference in the world defensively. Our D was good last year but sorely lacked turnovers to take pressure off our offense.

Jenkins will be missed more than some realize right now. He made up for a lot of other players like Harper and played on slot receivers a lot as well. Byrd will help against the run but I doubt he can cover as well as Jenkins did on many occasions. Not really an efficient move when you consider the position is Safety and there’s really only so much a Safety can do for a defense.

Thank Gawd he’s gone. They should have cut him loose a long time ago. Glad he’s in the NFC. Toast him.

Nice guy, but I am glad he is gone, kind of a tweener, not fast enough nor the hips of a corner, and can’t tackle or make a play on the ball like a safety, oh yeah, can’t take the right angle to the ball or ball carrier either.

ROBERT E LEE
you can’t name 5 game changing plays jenkins made his whole career here. AND, he can’t tackle and coverage ability? bet you where one of the PAY BREES WHAT HE WANTS clowns. jenkins is a joke. and tell us, why the saints offered him NOTHING

chattanola
Have a little class, R E LEE. The man was a contributing defender on a winning team each year since he’s been here.

Good luck MJ and thanks. Remember that Philly fan base will not put up with miss tackles. Be careful what u ask for.

Eagles paid a lot of money for someone who never got close to all pro status. Saints will be fine without him,and will be much better without the Harper / Jenkins duo that was abused . R Bush and Vaccaro will be a great tandem .

I really enjoyed watching Malcolm Jenkins over the years…thanks for your contributions and best of luck to you in Philly dude…

He couldn’t cover a bed with a fitted sheet….J Byrd 12 ints in last 3 seasons…Harper and Jenkins combined had 6 ints in last 3 seasons

Jenkins was a decent player but when you are drafted 14th you need to be a pro bowl caliber player

Jenkins always took bad angles and could not tackle. Good luck in Philly, BTW, how many picks does he has?

Infinite Rage
“How many picks does he has?”

Rodney Guidry
Jenkins never lived up to being a #1 pick. Played more like a 4th or 5th.

Great job in the SB, Jenks! Thx for everything and congrats on a great contract. Eags might find out he’s better as a nickle-back, which nowadays is a starter.

Finally! Maybe now we can get someone who’s NOT afraid to tackle.

canitb16
wait jenkins was supposed to tackle? are o linemen supposed to block? seems obvious but maybe not. thank you.

kinda glad he’s gone. wasn’t that good often got beat..

Saw one coment in a Eagles fan page : “He can play both safety spots and can cover slot WRs”, sorry pal, he can’t cover a fast SlotWR

nola_d19
Not surprised (or dissapointed) he wasn’t resigned. Good luck with the Eagels! Hopefully they are much better at coaching tackling than the Saints staff!

Malcolm Jenkins was a weak link in the secondary. To me, he never played like a high draft pick. He missed too many plays out of position, took bad angles and had poor ball skills. I wish him well, but I think the Saints will fill this position with a competent replacement.

Boy, let’s see how long it takes for Eagles fans to get nasty about that signing. I don’t think they’re gonna appreciate the missed tackles….

Now he is their problem, but then a change of teams may be what he needs to become a good player. We will see.

jcsmooth44
Good football player and a real high quality young man, best of luck to you Malcolm.

I’m dissapointed to see him go. I do believe safeties improve over time and we are probably missing the better part of his career. He didn’t really fit into the schemes while he was here until last year, but he definately contributed to a top 4 defense under Ryan.
