Yo, This Philly Glass is 3/4 Full!

It’s the last week of April and the Phillies haven’t been eliminated from the Playoffs, yet.  That “yet” is a much weaker yet than I would’ve jokingly said two weeks ago.  I didn’t have high expectations going into this season.  I was hoping to have a summer where the Phillies wouldn’t be eliminated until at least Eagles’ training camp.  However, the Phillies are showing signs of life and, aside from the Brewers and Braves, the National League is riddled with mediocrity. These 2014 Phillies may have life through the early fall.  Only time will tell.

201203-omag-optimism-600x411Today, I’m feeling optimistic.  Ryan Howard looks to be getting healthier and, more importantly, more confident.  Chase Utley looks strong, Jimmy Rollins has improved from last year, and Chooch is back on the Adderall.  Wednesday night, Cole Hamels returned to reinforce a pitching staff that was doing enough to stay in the middle of the pack, despite the bullpen.  Perhaps, just Perhaps, the club can get enough seven inning outings from Lee, Hamels, and Burnett to minimize the damage that the bullpen can inflict.  I see a very small crack of light at the end of a wildcard-chasing tunnel.

I’m not just feeling optimistic about the Phillies.  How can you not feel good about the next couple of Eagles’ seasons.  Chip Kelly looks to know what he’s doing.  I’m even happy about the release of headache Desean Jackson.  This is a young club and the veterans have to be setting the right example for the youngins.  And, wide receivers are kind of overrated.  Ask Tom Brady or Seattle.  (see HERE)  The new QB was a Pro Bowler.  The Eagles led the NFL in rushing and went on to bring in Darren Sproules.  A couple of defensive draft picks and I’m uber-geeked.

On the Sixers’ front, things can only get better, right?  Can Nerlens Noel play in the NBA?  I dunno.  I do think that if he played a healthy year in the NCAA this year that he would be a top 10 draft pick.  That means that the Sixers are essentially adding three top ten picks in 2014 to Michael Carter-Williams, a leading candidate for Rookie of the Year.  Brett Brown is a solid basketball guy, he’s no Eddie Jordan.  The Sixers will have a ton of cap space over the next two years so good times are a-coming!

The Flyers are down 2-1 in the series to the Rangers, but Steve Mason returns tonight.  I gotta believe that Mason and the Flyers come out prepared and tie this series up tonight.  Then, the Flyers just need to win a best out of three.  No worries!  If they do happen to stumble, I’m still optimistic knowing that Hexy is assisting in the front office and will hopefully talk some twenty-first century logic to Snider and Holmgren.

Sure, we’ve only got one title in the past thirty years, but that’s yesterday.  I’d much rather be an Eagles fan today than a Cowboys fan.  Power of Now, bitches!

All this optimism has me in the mood for a song.
