Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Frustrates Again with More BS

I appreciate Phillies GM Ruben Amaro taking phone calls on 94 WIP before today’s Phillies games.  He knows the fans aren’t happy and he still does the show.  A lot of GMs wouldn’t.

amaro31x-largeThat’s where my appreciation ends. Even in the midst of going 8-3 in their last 11 games, after a no-hitter and two back-to-back shutouts against the Braves, Ruben Amaro has succeeded in filling my afternoon with anger.  Why? Because he’s a bullshitter!

There’s two ways to win over the hearts of Philadelphia fans.  You can win or you can be honest with the fans. Charlie Manuel and Dallas Green are the rare exceptions that come to mind of being both.

The Phillies aren’t winning and haven’t dropped off dramatically since Ruben has taken over as GM so he’s got one other option…be straight with us.  Anything short of that and the mob will be calling for his job.

On today’s pre-game show, Ruben took a call from Teri (@terilyns68) who I know from twitter to be an educated die-hard Philadelphia sports fan.  She basically said it’s time to be honest and admit Dom Brown cannot play at this level and it was time to move on.

Ruben could have agreed.  Could have said Dom’s been a major disappointment.  That’s what we all know.  Instead, he stated that he hasn’t give up on Dom Brown.  According to Ruben, “with players with Dom’s ability, you have to be patient….he’s still learning the game.”

Still learning the game? He’s 27 and, as Joe Giglio (@JoeGiglioSports) pointed out, he has over 1400 plate appearances.  A total crock of shite.

We are too smart for that as fans.  We see him play, way too much.  And this is why fans can’t stand Ruben right now.  He had a chance to admit their evaluation of Brown was wrong and that Ruf or others would be seeing more time in the outfield for the remainder of the season.  Instead, he fed us the company line.

Honesty in this town is can go a long way….ask Buddy Ryan.  He’s a guy who never won a playoff game, but is still revered by a large portion of the city’s sports fans because he spoke from the heart and whatever was on his mind.  The fact that he called the owner “the guy in France” was what we were all thinking and knew.  Just like we all know Dom Brown is 4th outfielder, aside from a 7 week stretch.

Ruben, if you’re just gonna feed us BS don’t take the calls.  It’s insulting.

To ease my frustration with the pile of BS Ruben dished out today, I need to look at some Buddy quotes:

buddyryan[When Kevin Allen was in the hospital a second time for dehydration] “You know why everyone calls him the general, don’t you? General Hospital.”

[On running back Earnest Jackson] “He has never blocked anyone, and he can’t seem to catch the ball.”

[After his first look at running back Michael Haddix at mini-camp] “Maddix looks like a reject guard from the USFL, he’s so fat.”

Thanks, Buddy.  I feel better already!
