Flyers Need New Goal Song

The Flyers preseason started up.  Apparently, they’ve decided to use the same goal song as last year Fallout Boy’s My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up).  That song sucks.  The title sucks, too.  There’s no other way to say it.  The fine folks over at @BroadStHockey have been complaining for almost a year about the song (here). Something has to give.

161This town, this team, these fans deserve a better celebratory tune. I know people are clamoring for the return of Pennywise’s Bro Hymn, but that song has been the Anaheim Ducks song since 2005.  Pennywise also played live at the Ducks Stanley Cup Celebration. We don’t need to creep their goal song.

Granted, I take this music stuff too seriously due to working in the world of music for the past 23 years, but the Fallout Boy track is weak.  In my dreams, I also consult the local teams for their music, especially the Phillies walk-up and warm-up songs.  I’m talking to you @JakeDiekman and Ken Giles.  Ideally, the track would be related to Philly, but that seriously limits the choices.  A hook or chorus that can be sung or chanted along with wouldn’t be so bad.  The song should probably be somewhat modern, but not a huge hit.

Potential Alternative:

1. The Hives – Tick Tick Boom. This might be my clear favorite.  I’m surprised that it hasn’t been used yet.  I might be wrong but I don’t think any team has went the Tick Tick Boom direction.

2. Clutch – Electric Worry.  Clutch is a great band that receives a lot of love from Philadelphia.  Clutch has an energy and sound that resonates with Philadelphia.  Might be able to get an arena singing Bang, Bang, Bang, Bang, Vamanos, Vamanos

3. New Politics – Yeah Yeah Yeah.  Not a bad track that lends itself to a celebratory sing along of “yeahs”.  This is a clean radio edit without any F-Bombs so Flyers can’t use the “foul” language excuse.

4. Kaiser Chiefs – Na Na Na Na Naa.  These guys do decent pop punk stuff that seems to fit with what the Flyers management likes.  You get the point with the chorus.

5.  Japandroids – The House That Heaven Built.  This is might favorite song on the list.  This is a great band and the beginning of this song would definitely work after a goal. This is is right up there with The Hives.

6. Volbeat – Warrior’s Call. These guys are a Danish metal band that opened for Metallica on a string of dates last year.  I don’t think there’s any chance the Flyers management uses this, but tell me that wouldn’t sound great after a goal or during a skirmish.  This song was written for a Danish boxer.

7. Audioslave – Cochise.  I don’t know if this fits in, but a couple people at the bar the other night suggested this.  I guess it could work.  Can’t really sing along, though.

That’s what I got so far.  I wanted to put in a Megadeath song because Dave Mustaine has a good relationship with the Flyers.  I couldn’t think of one that worked.  He was in Metallica when they wrote Seek and Destroy, but I don’t see that working either.
