WEEKEND PREVIEW: October 24-27, 2014
This is the last weekend before Halloween so if you haven’t gone out and gotten scared yet and ya don’t venture out on the weeknights, this is it for you. So, get to it.
As always, Terror Behind the Walls is the best haunted house in the area. The problem is going to be the lines. However, it’s worth it. If you have a scheduled time, the line moves fairly quickly. They have some characters popping around while you wait that makes the time standing still less painful. The place isn’t cheap, but it’s worth it.
BrainSpunk Theater presents the Haunting of Hill House, based on the Novel by Shirley Jackson. The 1951 novel is considered one of the best horror novels ever written. Most consider it the mother of all haunted house books. This adaptation, by F. Andrew Leslie is an interactive experience where the scares are on the stage and in the audience. The play takes place at Christ Church so you can head over to Sassafras or Race Street Cafe for a pre or post show beverage!
The new Dilworth Park holds Oktoberfest on Saturday, which should be a day full of beer, food, music and more. There is a new cash-only beer garden, DJ’s, live music and plenty of family-friendly activities lined up. The DJ this Saturday is Reed Streets.
Saturday also has the Third Annual East Passyunk Fall Fest and Spooky Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Spooky Saturdayfree family fun will include cider and donuts, pumpkin painting, costume contests (for children and dogs), pet treats, art lessons, children’s dance party and pet adoptables. Fall Fest will feature outdoor seasonal fare from local restaurants and food trucks, 40 local artists and crafters, live bands, sidewalk sales and a fall plant sale. Business between the Singing Fountain and Mifflin Triangle (Mifflin and East Passyunk) will open doors to trick or treaters. Free bags will be given away to the first 500 children.
Saturday also has the South Street Pumpkin Fall Festival from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00. Join the South Street Headhouse District for a day of pumpkin decorating hosted by the Queen Village Arts Center & Creekwater Farms, circus performances by Airplay Entertainment, lively music from Mikey Jr. & the Stone Cold Blues, “Wheel Throwing 101″ by the Clay Studios, a Fall Bazaar that will showcase a wide array of products from local SSHD businesses and new this year are hay rides.
