GRAVEYARD SHIFT SCREENING PRESENTS: THE THING at The Roxy. This is a series of cult favorites at midnight on Fridays. THE THING (35 mm) dir: John Carpenter, U.S., 1982 109 minutes (35mm) Horror-meister John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York) teams Kurt Russell’s outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic The Thing.
SATURDAY:
The Philadelphia Auto Show starts Saturday! Even if you’re not in the market for a new car, I highly suggest you hit the auto show. Weeknights are usually better because the crowds can make sitting in cars a bit difficult, but if all you have is weekends free hit it up Saturday. The cars are fun to look at the crowd never disappoints for eye-candy, especially the wanna-be models taking portfolio pictures in front of sports car. I don’t understand it, but it happens.
Grab the kids for some good and FREE afternoon entertainment at Starr Garden’s 3rd annual Winterfest. Starr Garden is the playground at 6th and Lombard. From 2-4 p.m. the fest will include an ice carving demo by Roger Wing, Pony rides, Activities with Playworks coaches, Face painting, craft tables, hot cocoa, balloon animals, and music by Signature DJs!
College Hockey Faceoff happens Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center. This is the 3rd time that Penn State will face the University of Vermont as part of the College Hockey Faceoff so we even have a local rooting interest, kind of. The series is tied at 1-1.
More Kid fun…Chinese New Year Celebration at Penn Museum. This is part of the Museum’s World Culture Series. Visitors of all ages are invited to help shepherd in the Year of the Sheep at this daylong celebration. I’m trusting that Jack handles and travels with the animals in the greatest of care. Starts at 7 p.m. and tickets run $25-35.
SUNDAY
It’s Super Bowl Sunday. Get your snacks in. Get your beer. Or, get situated at your favorite watering hole early so you can get a seat. Enjoy the game.
TEASER TIME:
It’s the last teaser of the year. Tease the Patriots to +5 and under 54. For prop bets, grab no score in the first 6:30 of the game and longest FG over 44.5 yards.
Have a great weekend
