Weekend Preview: 3/27/15
Where the hell is Spring?
Of course there are NCAA hoops all weekend again, but far less game so here are a few select things to do this weekend. Some great opportunities to see live music, for sure.
FRIDAY
Our Friends over at PhilaMOCA are presenting an encore presentation of HAYAO MIYAZAKI BURLESQUE presented by Miss Rose’s Sexploitation Follies. Heard nothing but great things about the first performance. Definitely worth checking out.
Philly’s own The War on Drugs is at the Tower Friday night.
The Wilma Theater has HAMLET running through April. Blanka Zizka directs the production and she always does great work.
SATURDAY
Who doesn’t like the film Point Break? Underground Arts is bringing the Point Break Live production to Philly this Saturday. This claims to be an absurdist take on the cult hit and they even cast a Johnny Utah from the audience moments before the show begins.
Back to PhilaMOCA where they are showing the documentary 1971. The film covers a group of activitists froom Media, PA who broke into a local FBI office, stole every document available and leaked them to the press, leading to the first Congressional investigation of U.S. intelligence agencies in the country’s history.
Franky Bradley’s is one of the best new spots in town. This weekend they host a solid local band called Northern Arms. This ten-piece outs on a great show. Here’s an opportunity check out a good spot and band in one shot.
