RANT: Screw Good Morning America

What is up with the Good Morning America cult? Holy shit are people obsessed with this mediocre show. I hit the gym this morning because I have an appointment after work. Every TV was on GMA with the volume cranked.

I hopped on a treadmill, listening to Stern, and turned the closest TV to me to FOX so I could watch little Good Day with subtitles. Within two minutes, an older woman comes over and taps me on the shoulder.

“Can I put on Good Morning America?”

I had headphones on so I felt like I had to acquiese since she brought none of her own entertainment. So I looked at the other 50 inch TV a few treadmills down, then at her, and said “sure.”

Why couldn’t she hop on one of the five open treadmills in front of a TV already playing GMA?

I don’t get GMA or the other national morning shows when we have a local show that is decent.

The local news you get is a 2 minute commercial break update that mentions car accidents, killings, fires, traffic jams and weather. Then, it’s back to Michael Strahan not being funny and other pieces not even remotely connected to life in the Delaware Valley.

I saw some riveting stuff this morning on GMA like:

-Is it ok to have a fave child? A mommy blogger comes clean.

-Therapy dogs from some NYC group that helps hospital patients in NYC to celebrate volunteer week.

-Which has-been who dances poorly has been cut from Dancing with the Stars.

Really? This is cult worthy?

Dogs? We have a bazillion dogs in need of adoptions and some of them are featured on Good Day Philadelphia. Wouldn’t these people be more interested in watching dogs doing good things in Philadelphia? I need to watch a New York group spout on about their work without even suggesting that there may be local groups near the veiwers that they could get involved with?

Speaking of volunteering, why not learn about great non-profits in Philadelphia doing remarkable work and learning how to get involved. I see groups like that on Good Day all the time.

F**K New York chefs and celebrity chefs featured on these national shows. We have great restaurants and chefs in Philly, which are regularly featured on Good Day.

I just don’t get it. I don’t watch morning shows habitually. I usually catch up on sports in the morning. But, when I do, why wouldn’t I watch a show spotlighting things do in my community and people doing great things in my community.

Shop local. Watch local.

We have a great city and community here. Celebrate it. Screw Good Morning America.

RANT OVER.

*Disclaimer: I have not received any compensation from Good Day nor am I an employee. I may be partial due to a night of boozing with the venerable Mike Jerrick as evidenced below.
