With Love Super Adoption Day 2015 In Pictures

This past Sunday Philadelphia’s With Love Super Adoption Day took place at the Piazza in Northern Liberties. This is one of the greatest annual events in Philadelphia, where animal rescue groups from all around the Delaware Valley come together to save lives.

Most people aren’t aware of the magnitude of Philadelphia’s dog and cat animal crisis. Every year, over 30,000 dogs and cats are brought to ACCT, Philadelphia’s Animal Care & Control Team, on Hunting Park Avenue. There was a time when more than 60% of those dogs and cats were put to death due to space limitations at the local shelters. Today, save rates are higher than maybe ever. I think they currently SAVE about 70%.  That’s due to the hard work of ACCT and also the rescue groups that pull animals from the ACCT shelter, volunteers that work with the animals, and fosters, who provide a safe shelter in their own homes for dogs and cats. And, events like Super Adoption Day, which is the brainchild of Garrett Elwood from Citizens for No-Kill Philadelphia. I was there early in the day and they had save 19 animals in the first hour or so.

Special shoutouts to some of my favorite animal groups, all of which could use volunteers and/or funding assistance: ACCTNew Leash on Life, PAWS, Red Paw. By the way, ACCT usually has a couple hundred adoptable dogs/cats each day. Sheena Parveen always a big supporter of the event, too. Nice work by her. She shows up in a picture or two down below.

Enjoy the photos below capturing the event and celebrating some of the people and organizations that save thousands of lives each year through their dedication and passion. They truly help to make Philly a better city. Every dog and cat in the photos is available for adoption. Remember, Adopt Don’t Shop. Spread the word…and volunteer!
