Hey Ruben Amaro, Here’s What We Understand
Jim Salisbury wrote a piece today in which Ruben Amaro insults the Phillies fans saying we don’t understand the game. Here is the quote:
“They don’t understand the game,” Amaro said. “They don’t understand the process. There’s a process. And then they bitch and complain because we don’t have a plan. There’s a plan in place and we’re sticking with the plan. We can’t do what’s best for the fan. We have to do what’s best for the organization so the fan can reap the benefit of it later on. That’s the truth.”
We don’t understand the game? Hey Ruben…here’s what we understand.
-You were probably a mediocre batboy and kept on the Phillies squad because your dad was with the organization.
-You stunk as a major league baseball player, having a career batting average of .235.
-The organization handed you a job as Assistant GM because you are their “golden child” for some apparent reason. You didn’t have to do any time as a scout to prove you had any front office skills. No, you were hired out-of-the-blue as Assistant GM.
-You took over the best team in baseball and made it the worst. You claim that it’s the natural process of things once a team wins it all, even though that’s not the case with the Giants or Cardinals or Boston.
-You fired Marty Wolaver as the scapegoat. If he sucked so bad, what does it say about you that it took you 6 years to figure that out.
-You traded Cliff Lee for nothing.
-You are the only organization that signed Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, the only Cuban player who can’t play.
-We understand you got fleeced for Hunter Pence, throwing in Domingo Santana, 6’5″ 225lbs, who is currently hitting .299 and has 10 HRs in AAA ball with Houston.
-You traded Hunter Pence for nothing.
-We understand that the Phillies gave you the job that should’ve been Mike Arbuckle’s. Arbuckle has since gone on to Kansas City and he has helped get their farm system into the top 10 and they are currently in first place.
-We understand that Ed Wade had the Astros’ farm system in the top 10 the past few years and the Astros are currently in first place, while you decimated the Phillies system and roster.
-We understand that you diminished the trade values of players at the trade deadline because of ridiculous options that you included in the deals you made.
-You overpaid for a closer and made him untradeable.
-You traded Vance Worley, when his value was high, for Ben Revere at a time when the Twins had Revere and Denard Span on the block. You chose to go after Revere.
-We understand that you and your process has been mocked publicly by the likes of Peter Gamons and Ken Rosenthal.
-We understand that you refused to include Dom Brown in any trade talks back in the day, when your organization should’ve known he wasn’t as good as the hype.
-We understand that you have done nothing but drive the Phillies into the basement and that’s with Hall of Famer Pat Gillick holding your hand.
You might be right. Maybe we don’t understand that game. One thing we do understand is you stink as a GM. Shut your face.
