PHILADELPHIA’S BURLESQUE FESTIVAL
runs all weekend long. This multi-day festival celebrates the local burlesque community and welcomes artists from around the country. The Peek-A-Boo Revue are a true Philadelphia treasure and they’ll be performing Friday night.  Friday and Saturday events take place at Plays & Players Theater on Delancey Street. Check it out if you can.

FRIDAY:

Free family fun in Hawthorne Park returns this Friday as their Summer Movie Nights series begins. This week they are showing Frozen, yeah with that annoying song. But, the kids like it. The film starts at 8:30ish (dusk) but the festivities start at 7:00 with games and snacks. Bring a blanket and head to 12th & Catharine.

Philadelphia’s Circadian Rhythms plays Ortlieb’s at 3rd and Poplar Friday night. The show is 9:00 and $8. These guys are a fun show to catch. Can’t say much about them. Their music speaks for itself:

I love the band Ween. I loathe the music by Billy Joel. However, Gene Ween Does Billy Joel at Underground Arts is gonna be a blast. Get drunk at a great venue and sing along to your favorite Joel songs done in a creative and fun way.

SATURDAY:

Beer Week!

Spruce Street Harbor Park!

40th Street Summer Series begins this Saturday and is a series of free, outdoor events. Philadelphia’s experimental cabaret group The Bearded Ladies kick off the Summer Series this year. Tapestry Tribal will also provide some world music. The usual family activities like face painting, jugglers, balloons will also be there. Everything happens at 40th & Walnut Streets behind the Free Library, starting at 6:00 p.m.

Eternal Summers is playing the batting cages on Girard Avenue Saturday night. Everybody Hits, the batting cages at 529 W. Girard Avenue, is hosting this trippy, cool band in a venue that normally has smaller punk shows.  All the kids are digging Eternal Summers. The show is at 9 and tickets are $7. Here’s some of their work:
