SATURDAY:
PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET returns for it’s Summer edition. These events are awesome and showcase great local crafts arts folks and includes everything from clothing to jewelry, to painting and sketches, to pop culture trinkets. You can also score great vintage clothing and LPs. Bring cash, it makes things easier because some vendors don’t take cards and the ATMs were out of cash by mid-day last time I was there. This is the coolest hand-crafted local Walmart, if something like that existed. A $3 donation gets you in the door. Different vendors will be there on Saturday and Sunday.
FAIRMOUNT ARTS & CULTURE DAY happens from 11a.m to 3p.m. in Fairmount Avenue between 22nd Street & Corinthian Streets. This should be a decent, free family event. Local musicians, artists and performers will be on hand. They will have art and craft booths. Local prizes and food trucks are also on the docket.
FISHTOWN FESTIVALE shuts down Frankford Avenue in Fishtown for a block party in conjunction with Philly Beer Week. A bunch of local establishments are partaking in the party, including: Johnny Brenda’s, Frankford Hall, Fette Sau, La Colombe, Fishtown Tavern and other. Frankford Avenue (the 2 blocks north of Girard) will be shut down for the party. The party takes place noon to 8p.m. Carnival games and a farmer’s market from Greensgrow Farms will also be on hand. It’s a pay as you go event.
SPOKEN HAND PERCUSSION ORCHESTRA returns to the Painted Bride Saturday and Sunday night. The Orchestra fuses percussion from North Indian tabla, Afro Cuban Bata, Brazilian samba and West African djembe into one distinct voice. These guys provide a high energy live show. Ticket are $30.
SUNDAY:
Go back to PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET. Different vendors from Saturday means an entire set of new merch to peruse.
IRISH AMERICAN FESTIVAL at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing is Sunday from 1p.m-8p.m. This is a family event featuring Irish musicians, dance schools, bagpipers and traditional Irish Food. The event is free to wander and watch. Food is pay as you go. Featured bands include: Bogside Rogues, Jamison and Blackthorn.
Horror Fans Alert: VIVISECTIONS International Horror Shorts is showing at PhilaMOCA Sunday night. The shorts begin at 7:30 and tickets are $10. This venue is a great place to check out shows and support at 531 N. 12th Street. Here’s a trailer for one of the shorts:
