XPoNential Music Festival happens all weekend on the Camden Waterfront. 3 days of music. 3 stages. 31 performers. Is there a better way to spend a weekend than outdoors with good live music? This year’s performers include: St. Vincent, Courtney Barnett, My Morning Jacket, Grace Potter, Calexico, Indigo Girls and tons more. Courtney Barnett alone is worth the price of admission.
This weekend is also the conclusion of the Koresh Dance Company’s 2015 COME TOGETHER DANCE FESTIVAL runs all weekend. If you enjoy dance or are curious about dance, get yourself to the Festival one day over the weekend. This is the 3rd year of the festival, which celebrates various styles of dance including contemporary ballet, tap, hip-hop and more. The festival takes place at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre at Broad 7 Lombard. Some great performers will be hitting the stage the final three days.
FRIDAY:
DIANA KRALL & THE PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA play the Mann Center Friday night. In addition to her lush orchestral standards, Ms. Krall will also perform hits including such pop classics as The Mamas and the Papas’ “California Dreamin'”, the Eagles’ “Desperado,” and Bob Dylan’s “Wallflower,”, all from her new album “Wallflower” set to be released on Feb. 3rd.
SATURDAY:
MESS FEST is at the Franklin Institute this weekend. This is where science allegedly gets slimy, explosive, and gooey. The Fest goes 12-4 p.m. The Institute celebrates messes in nature. You can get dirty in a composting trough, watch a mud volcano erupt and other messy activities. What kid wouldn’t enjoy this?
The University City District has it’s 40TH STREET SUMMER FESTIVAL going on this Saturday night from 5-8 p.m. This is a great event for a date night or a family night. It’s a free evening of entertainment in a carnival-like atmosphere with live music, interactive arts & crafts and entertainment. The festival takes place on the green space behind the 40th Street Library on Walnut Street. Entertainers include trapeze, juggling and tight wire-walkers, hula hooping, face painters, music by Mixed People with Red Cedar Strings & Au Jus and others.
CHRISTMAS IN JULY is happening Saturday afternoon at the RiverRink Summerfest at Penns Landing. From 3-7 p.m. the outdoor roller skating rink will have a holiday theme with Santa present. Holiday music, movies, and pictures with Santa and his elves will be available. There will be crafting and face painting, etc. for the youngins. There’s even red and white water ice available.
SUNDAY:
It’s time for the 10th Annual EAST PASSYUNK CAR SHOW & STREET FESTIVAL. This might be our pick of the week. A street festival on East Passyunk with a car show? The event runs on the Avenue between Broad & Dickinson Streets. Each block will have live music and a DJ, free moon bounce & kids activities, great food, and over 140 antique, show, classic and custom cars, trucks, motorcycles. FREEEEE!
FLOETRY returns for an encore performance at the TLA. The first show, last week, sold out. The show is 8:00 p.m. and tickets are $47.50. Floetry got their start in Philly back in the early 2000’s. These ladies do a great modern take on soul music.
