Philly Weekend Picks: 8/7-8/9
It’s time for more Philly Weekend Picks already. It’s August so things are kind of slowing down everywhere. However, still some fun stuff going on.
Don’t forget, the Beer Gardens is rocking it throughout the city.
FRIDAY:
Diplo’s MAD DECENT BLOCK PARTY takes place Friday night. This is the second straight Block Party night at Festival Pier. This is part of a 22-night tour. Dozens of performers partake in the Block Party including: Jack Ü, Lazer, Alison Wonderland, Yellow Claw, Flosstradamus and more. There’s an after party at the SoundGarden Hall on Columbus Boulevard with more music and dancing.
In the mood for some live rap? Mr. MFN eXquire is playing Kung Fu Necktie Friday night. Tickets are $12-$15. He’s sometimes serious, sometimes funny. More importantly, Mr. creates good music.
Franky’s Foxes, Philly’s newest drag show, hits Franky Bradley’s Friday night.
Friday, August 7th will mark the third of the jaw-dropping performances from the Foxes. The troupe, which includes: Iris Spectre, Maria Top Catt, Omyra Lynn, Zsa Zsa St. James, Ms. Karma, Ann Artist, and Lady Poison, have prepared a scorching evening of sensory overload for your viewing pleasure. General admission tickets will be $7 at the door. Doors will open at 9:30pm, with showtime at 10:30pm. Drink specials, including the Fox Hunty Lemonade, will be served all night!
Lingnum Skateboards is setting up a pop-up store at Art in the Age. In addition to hand-crafted skateboards made in Philadelphia, there will be SNAP Pulled Pork sliders from Rock the Roll and AITA cocktails. Stop by Aug 8th from 6-8pm to check it out!
SATURDAY:
Like dogs? People? Supporting good causes? Philadelphia’s New Leash on Life is having a POOL PAWTY fundraiser at the Philadelphia Pet Hotel & Villas this Saturday. New Leash on Life USA is a new generation non-profit prison dog-training program that saves the lives of shelter dogs at-risk of euthanasia and gives incarcerated inmates a chance for redemption. Attendees can bring their dog along to chill poolside and there will be activities for adults and kids, music, snacks, cocktails and workshops. The event goes 10:00 a.m. – 4 p.m.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY!
WALLA FEST happens Saturday and Sunday at Philamoca. This Fest features two days of art shows, bands, and film screenings. Everything this place does is interesting and fun. It’s an all ages event with tickets from $10-$12. The two night festival/gathering was founded in Norristown. This is the first Walla Fest in Philly. Hey…Mannequin Pussy are playing. That should be enough.

Another festival going on this weekend is the 35th Pennsylvania Dutch Festival at Reading Terminal Market where you can celebrate the traditions, foods, and crafts of the Pennsylvania Dutch. This will be a three-day celebration of Dutch culture from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Grab some apple dumplings, Shoo-Fly pie, Amish-style pork sausage sandwich, roasted peanuts, homemade ice cream, jams, fudge and more. You can also watch members of the area’s Amish community make traditional crafts. Browse handmade quilts, wooden furniture, toys, scarves, home decor and more.
Indian Nation: Indian Motorcycles and America is an exhibit going on through August 23rd at the American Swedish Historical Museum. The exhibit features the history of the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company and how the company’s history mirrors the history and attitudes of 20th century America. Rare Indian Motorcycles from 1903-1953 are featured.
