RANT ALERT: Ruben Amaro STILL Needs To Beat It!

BeatitESPN’s Keith Law has the Phillies farm system ranked as high as 7 after the deadline moves. MLB has the Phillies farm system currently ranked 7th. The NY Post has the Phillies as the 3rd most likeliest team to rise from the ashes in 2016. Even the First Week of Summer Blog has the Phillies as the 6th best farm system in baseball. Jayson Stark spoke with Mike Missanelli yesterday and said that sources say Amaro’s chances of staying as GM of the Phillies are good, but can they sell it to the fans?

Todd Zolecki reported on a phone interview that Pat Gillick did with MLB.com Tuesday evening:

Asked if he thinks Amaro should be back next year, Gillick said, “I’ve always said he’s smart, he’s confident. He didn’t all of a sudden get dumb. I’ve said that a number of times. We had four bad years. We had three good years before that. Unfortunately, people just remember what you did yesterday. It’s like any business. It’s a tough business.”

Gillick said fan sentiment is “certainly a small part” of the decision-making process.

A SMALL PART?

Gillick must be going deaf and blind or he has no exposure to sportstalk radio, social media, or season ticket-holder surveys.

Ruben Amaro, Jr needs to find a way to earn a living off of the Phillies payroll. He has spent 22 of the past 28 years on the Phillies payroll, not including his days as a Phillies bat boy. The fans, season ticket-holders, TV viewers have spent enough time and money supporting Ruben Amaro, Jr. He’s a big boy now. He’ll be able to find a way to take care of himself just like the rest of us.

Sure, he traded the best Pitcher (contract years/age/guaranteed money considered) in baseball for some decent players. YIPPEEEEE! It only took him six years to figure out how to make deals like this work. Cliff Lee? Hunter Pence? COME ON!

He also happened to trade Chase and Jimmy two years too late. Oh, he also managed to outbid himself into a ludicrous contract for reliever Jonathan Papelbon, which made getting anything substantial in return for him nearly impossible.

Way too many sources are reporting that it’s a possibility that this guy stays. I, as a season ticket-holder, will not renew my tickets if this arrogant dude returns as GM of our Phillies. I wouldn’t want Ruben back if he managed to trade Papelbon for Mike Trout. Okay, maybe Mike Trout, but he didn’t!

He’s views the Phillies fans as an annoyance. He attacked frustrated fans, who wanted Aaron Nola called up, by saying they “don’t understand the game” and then brought Nola shortly after. Who talks like that about their fan/customer base? Even Donald Trump praises his workers and fans, even the Mexican ones.

Multiple outlets have named him the worst GM in baseball at one point or another. National analysts like Peter Gammons and others have openly mocked Amaro’s front office system, moves and contract extensions. One good trade deadline does not make Amaro worthy of an extension.

Ruben Amaro does great volunteer work in the Philadelphia community. He should do that full-time. The team needs vision, a leader ahead of the curve. Amaro has been trying to find the curve for the past four years.

Ruben has had his chance. He drove a Porsche into Tacony Creek. He’s gonna put up a fight just as John Rambo did back in the day:

Turn it off! The Colonel is right. IT’S OVER. Mr. Andy MacPhail, hopefully, has a clue. If you ask 97 Phillies fans about keeping RAJ, 100 want him gone.

Do what’s right Andy MacPhail. Do what your customers want. Amaro has gotten enough on the back of Phillies fans. If the Phillies can figure out a way to keep him on the payroll with Wheels, do it! Just don’t let him into the Player Personnel Department. Hell, give him a letter of recommendation for a new job, just don’t mention the past four years.

We’re ready to move on. We need to move on.

Andy MacPhail needs to MacHear us. We are many. We are loud. We do not want Ruben Amaro, Jr. back as GM of our Philadelphia Phillies. Jimmy is gone. Chase is gone. Shane is gone. Charlie is gone. Ruben’s time has come.

E-A-G-L-E-S!
