Dear Chip, Please Don’t Insult Our Intelligence

Dear Chip,

Don’t be like Andy when it comes to insulting the fans’ intelligence.

When you first arrived you seemed like such a breath of fresh air. Your press conferences and interviews felt real. You were a straight shooter without any of the tired cliches.

If you didn’t have us at “Big people beat up little people,” you definitely had us at “We’re from Philadelphia and we fight.

However, as this season’s struggles continue, you’re starting to lose us. You’re not losing us because the teams is stumbling so much as this week’s press conference felt like you were feeding us bullsh**. That felt far too similar to the guy before you.

When asked aboutRyan Matthews’ limited workload, you indicated that Duce said Matthews injured his groin before his 63 yard TD run. Maybe he did hurt his groin, but it’s hard to believe since we watched him high-step into the end zone on that TD run. But, maybe it’s true. We’ll give you the benefit of the doubt on that one.

However, when questioned about considering a change to Mark Sanchez, you answered:

“Not at all. I think our quarterback is playing well. I have been pleased with Sam — very pleased with Sam.”

Ver pleased with Sam’s play? He’s playing well?

Here’s what you told us previously about quarterbacks in your system, as quoted by the USA Today:

“You have to have a quarterback that is accurate and can deliver the football and protect it and not turn it over.”

Sam isn’t protecting the ball. He currently leads the league in Interceptions, four in the red zone. You cannot be pleased with that.

I realize you can’t call out players, but we all know you can’t be happy and have to be frustrated. Be straight with us. Just say you weren’t considering a change because you believe the entire offense will improve from the coaches to the line to the recievers to the quarterback. Don’t tell us you’re “very pleased” when that can’t be farther from the truth.

There is no quicker way to lose support in this city then by feeding the fans bullsh** and insulting their collective intelligence. Andy Reid did it again and again. He told fans they didn’t need wide receivers, or linebackers, or a kick returner or that there weren’t any issues with Jim Washburn and his wide-9 system. The fans all knew better and that’s when he started to lose the support of the city.

Please, don’t go there.

The answers at this week’s press conference were disappointing. We expected better. The fans deserve honesty. With each lie or attempt to obfuscate the truth, the more you remind us of the your predecessor and that didn’t end well.
