Eagles Fans Should Cheer for This Guy in Super Bowl 50

Super Bowl 50 has several storylines that people are getting behind for a rooting interest. Some want Peyton Manning to to ride off into the NFL playing career sunset with a victory. Some want to see Cam Newton dab his way to a Lombardi trophy. Here in Philly, Eagles fans might want to get behind the Broncos and Gary Kubiak for the sake of the Eagles and current NFL trends.

Here’s the deal, as an earlier Jawnville piece pointed out, former NFL quarterbacks don’t fare very well as head coaches. Only Tom Flores has won a Super Bowl. He was a starter, a Pro Bowler as some point. Backup quarterbacks that have become head coaches have never won squat.

Gary Kubiak can change NFL history and trends with victory on Sunday. A Denver victory would bode well for the Eagles since they’ve just hired Doug Pederson, a career backup QB, as head coach. Somebody has to break the backup QB head coach curse. I’d feel better if Kubiak kicked the door open and Pederson just had to walk through it. Kubiak would break the schneid, just in time for the Eagles rebuild.

So, as you settle down with your beers, chips and dips, cheer for this dude…for the sake of the Eagles and NFL trends.
