Philly Pulls Together for Sheila
Yesterday was a beautiful day in Philadelphia. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people gathered along the 1200 block of Pine Street for Dirty Frank’s Sheila Our SunShine Fundraiser block party.
Longtime Dirty Frank’s bartender Sheila Modglin was struck by a car and severely injured on her way home from work after the Eagles parade. She has a long road to recovery and, unfortunately, does not have health insurance.
If you’ve ever spent any time at Dirty Frank’s you’ve probably been served by Sheila. Her and her smile has been at Frank’s forever. As far as bartenders in town go, Sheila is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. If you only had one interaction with Sheila, it was memorable. She exudes love and kindness. In her spare time, she brought art to underprivileged children.
The Sheila Our SunShine Fundraiser was an amazing success and the perfect way to spend a brisk, sunny Sunday afternoon in March.
Bands played. Beers and ciders were served by Philadelphia Brewing Company. Food trucks fed people. Baskets of impressive prizes were auctioned off. People danced. And Fergie, from Fergie’s Pub and more, held a live auction for a Golden Ticket, which basically gets you into every concert in the city for a year, that sold for over $6,000.
The day was a great success for an even better cause. The impressive outpouring of support and love from the Philly community was a testament to the beauty and kindness that is Sheila Modglin.
Here’s to a speedy recovery. Nicely done, Philadelphia.
If you weren’t able to make the block party and still want to help, you can still contribute to Sheila’s recovery fund via GoFundMe.
