Tonewood Night and Opening Tap Review
Last night was the Philly Beer Week event I’d been most looking forward too, in fact it was our Jawnville Pick. It was Tonewood Brewing night at South Philly’s P.O.P.E.
Tonewood is a great little brewery in Oaklyn, NJ with a tasting room that I haven’t ventured to yet, but I’ve had several of their beers and they have all been on point.
I started off with the staple of their collection, Fuego. 6.2% of, as they describe, dank and juicy glory.
Before I knew it, I was sitting poolside in sunny California or a dark corner of the P.O.P.E. drinking a Tonewood Poolside watching the Phillies and feeling as refreshed as if I was in San Diego.
Freshies was up next. I’ll admit I’m a sucker for Simcoe hops so chances were high that I’d dig the Freshies. I did. All of the Tonewood stuff is crisp and fresh.
If you can’t make it to their spot in Oaklyn, I know you can grab a six-pack at a couple Joe Canal’s in South Jersey. But, do yourself a favor and make the trip. You might me sales/marketing/disto and all all-around nice guy Eli chilling around the brewery.
As promised, the P.O.P.E. delivered Mario Super Cart along with Tonewood brews.
I was a few beers in by the time I tried to center that photo.
On a side note, the P.O.P.E. bathroom may be as close as you can get to resembling the old toilets at C.B.G.B.’s. just way cleaner.
You still have a few nights to enjoy Beer Week so do it if you like fun…and beer.
My highlights from the Week’s Opening Tap party included local rapper Chill Moody crushing the stage at the Fillmore.
Nobody going to the Yuengling table all night. Few things were more amusing all week.
Let’s face it…they don’t belong at Beer Week. Might as well have a Coors Light table next to them.
Holding the Hammer of Glory is like getting the chance to hold a Chase Utley bat from the 2008 World Series.
Getting slammed in the head from local bartending legend Bartender Bill was an even bigger thrill.
Drink Beer. Have Fun. Enjoy Philly.
