NEW RAMEN ALERT: NEIGHBORHOOD RAMEN

I like ramen. Who doesn’t like ramen? If you’ve been poor or a college student or a poor college student, then you’ve gotta be a fan of ramen.

I’ve been lucky enough to slurp ramen in Tokyo at Ichiran, which many proclaim is the best ramen in the world. It’s pretty damn good, but Philly has its own share of great ramen spots like Kung Fu Hoagies, Ramen Bar, Terakawa, Yamitsuki, Cheu Noodle, and Morimoto.

Add Neighborhood Ramen to that list. Neighborhood Ramen has been around for a while as a secret location Instagram-based Pop-up, but I only just heard of them as they opened an actual brick and mortar location in my hood (617 S. 3rd Street).

The decor is fresh, clean, and minimal. The walls are painted with a cool mural style reminiscent of older Keith Haring.

The menu has like four options for ramen, including vegan, all of which cost between $10-$14 and a few sides. It’s basic, but that’s all you need in a ramen joint. It’s BYO, which is always a plus for the wallet.

I went with the vegetarian option, which is the vegan option with an egg and it was killer. The noodles weren’t as soft as I’m used to, but I dug it…a lot.

The presentation was impressive, so impressive that I dove head first into the bowl and forgot to snap a photo. The photo above doesn’t do their ramen justice.  I devoured the beautiful presentation of mushrooms and egg atop the noodles before realizing I forgot the photo.

If you like ramen, get to Neighborhood Ramen. They won’t disappoint. This place ranks right up there with the great Philly ramen spots listed above. Go get your slurp on at Neighborhood Ramen. Your wallet and belly will thank you.
