LOOKOUT for that hole!
There can be many reasons why you should not drive down a street. If you see a garbage truck on trash day, you know it’s going to a slow mover so probably best to avoid. If there is a first-responder vehicle stopped in the middle of a block it is probably also best to find another street to use, unless you like sitting still in your car.
Another subtle sign not to turn down a street might be caution tape strewn across the street and orange hazard cones. I know it doesn’t jump right out at you to avoid streets like this, but one is better safe than sorry.
You don’t want to be like this driver:
You see. This driver couldn’t piece all the indirect clues together that there may be an issue with turning onto this small street in South Philadelphia.
That’s actually a tired suspended in air over a sinkhole with water below.
Witnesses at the scene say the individual had zero inclination that the street contained possible hazards. One witness said the driver of the vehicle actually moved one of the cones to the side.
I hear the driver was waiting for the Water Department to pay for a tow out of the hole. Can you blame him? How was he supposed to know of any hazard without any signs indicating such? Caution tape and cones could’ve just been kids playing a prank. Come on!
