Jetboy Sings the Flyers Goal Song?

I might have to turn in my hair-metal card. I mean, I pride myself on being a full-fledged kid of the hair-metal ’80s and early ’90s and yet, I had no recollection that Jetboy sang the Flyers 2019-20 goal song Feel the Shake. JETBOY?!

How the hell did the Flyers find Jetboy? This franchise has a history of choosing either terrible goal songs or goal songs that other teams were using. There was also that weird DJ goal song by Kid Cudi so anything is possible with the Flyers, but the obscure hair-metal band Jetboy?

Jetboy has to be the favorite song of an employee’s burned out 80’s uncle. How else could this song end up on anyone’s radar?

If I had to wager on which of the spandex and make-up-wearing-bands from the late ’80s or early ’90s would be relevant in my world in Philadelphia thirty years later, it might have been Motley Crue, Poison, Cinderella, but never JETBOY!

I was at the home opener. I heard the goal song, Feel the Shake. I just thought it was another bad song by a generic new band that I never heard of. It’s been that long since I listened to Jetboy and I guarantee that I have the Jetboy debut album on cassette stored somewhere in parents’ garage.

It’s such a peculiar selection by the Flyers. A hairband from 80’s San Francisco that wore spandex and more Aqua Net hairspray than Wayne Newton.

If the Flyers make the playoffs this year they may have to keep Feel the Shake for the immediate future. You can’t mess with good mojo. This franchise is about to go on a run as their youth matures and Carter Hart improves. It’s gonna be kind of hysterical that a song from 1988 by Jetboy might be leading the way.

It’s definitely an improvement. The Flyers used to be a franchise stuck in the mid-seventies. At least they’ve gotten to 1988 these days.

The Flyers have to get Jetboy to perform live before a game.

If you’re not familiar with Jetboy, here’s their video for Feel the Shake from 1988. Grab a Bartles & James wine cooler and enjoy.
