Please Sixers, Don’t Lue Us Like That

There’s way too much smoke circulating on Twitter for there not to be some fire with the Tyronn Lue and 76ers rumors. Lue doesn’t really excite me. I know he’s got a couple of rings as a player and one as a coach. So, you’d think I’d be more excited about his possibly coaching the 76ers, but I’m not.

My high school basketball coach, who wasn’t very good, probably could’ve coached that LeBron Cleveland squad to a Championship back in 2016. Without LeBron in Cleveland, well you know the story. Lue was fired like 13 games into the season. It wasn’t pretty.

Regardless, that’s not why I don’t want Tyronn Lue. I don’t want him coaching in Philly because it will ruin one of the most iconic Philadelphia sports images of all time.

I don’t want to think of Lue in any other way except for Iverson stepping over him. That would be like the Eagles bringing in Frank Gifford in some way and ruining this other iconic photo.

It’s such a legendary sports moment, even with them losing to the Lakers that year. They can’t go and have Sixers fans suddenly hoping that the guy we’ve laughed at for almost two decades leads the Sixers to the Promised Land, can they?

Are they going to remove all instances of that photo from the arena and practice facility? C’mon! I can see Ben or Jo just pointing to the photo and laughing when Lue tries to instill a little discipline.

Anyone, but Lue. I’d take Eddie Jordan back instead. Not really, but maybe. Please 76ers, don’t Lue us like that.

For the record, the other most iconic Philly sports images in my opinion are these:
