A Fan’s View: 10/06/14

0270599001412368346_filepickerThe Eagles are 4-1.  Nobody in the NFL will have 5 wins after this week.  Only two other teams will have four wins after this week, the Chargers and the Cowboys.  Is this the ugliest four wins in the NFL?  Will they get torched by a good quarterback? Probably. Either way, in the Now, in the present moment, the Eagles are tied for the best record in the NFL after five weeks.

THE GOOD: Special teams are a monster.  Another blocked kick, another TD, and great return yardage. James Casey contributed with a blocked punt! Dave Fipp (Special Teams Coach) shouldn’t pay for a drink in town for the rest of the year!

THE BAD: The Eagles secondary.  Yikes! Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher are borderline average cornerbacks in the NFL.  Why is Nate Allen still on this team? Combine those three stooges with only 6 defensive sacks (23rd in the NFL) and the Eagles give up 274.2 passing yards/game.  That’s only better than the Tampa Bay, Arizona and Jacksonville. Why can’t Brandon Boykin start at this point? I don’t care if he’s 5’6″.

THE UGLY: Nick Foles head-first slide and resulting fumble.  Graceful he was not.

LANE JOHNSON helped the running game, but looked rusty in pass protection at times.

LESEAN MCCOY is pressing too hard.  He’s feeling the pressure of setting his sights on 2,000 yards and having a banged up offensive line in front of him.  The Football Gods , obviously, do not look kindly on people proclaiming a 2,000 yard season in their future. That’s rare company.  The play where he ran around, back and forth, and ended up fumbling is Exhibit A of his pressing too much.

Should we be getting concerned about the way Shady is handling adversity? He looks frustrated on the sidelines.  Last week he didn’t talk to the media after the game and blew off his radio show. This week he took himself out of the game’s final minutes?

NICK FOLES looked serviceable. He made some good throws and some terrible throws….and that fumble!

DARREN SPROLES looks more effective running right now.  Weird! I’m not saying start him. He’s not as good as Shady, but something is up.

THE REST OF THE WORLD….

ALEX HENERY still blows.  He missed 3 Field Goals yesterday in a Detroit loss and will most likely be cut this week.  Is Matt Millen still the GM in Detroit?

Do not bet against the Royals or Orioles in the MLB playoffs. Magic could be at play here.  How are the Orioles this good after all the injuries and suspensions?

Saw SKELETON TWINS with Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig this weekend. Eh. 2.5 out of 5 rating.  Wait for Netflix.  Not a great drama.  Not a great comedy, but definitely funny parts with Hader and Wiig interacting.
