WEEKEND PREVIEW: 10/18/2014
It’s the Eagles bye week so you have no excuse not to get outside and enjoy one of the many cool things happening in our city this weekend.
For starters, the Philadelphia Film Society presents the 23rd Philadelphia Film Festival. The Festival actually started on Thursday, but there are still a ton of shows and events all week long. There are celebratory speakers. live interviews and Q&A’s, and a ton of cool movies. For more information check it out here.
The Harry Potter Festival comes to Chestnut Hill this Saturday. This festival is two days of spellbinding events that morph the neighborhood into the fictional world of Harry Potter. Events include a bar crawl, film screenings, demonstrations, scavenger hunt and the 5th Annual Philadelphia Brotherly Love Quidditch Cup Tournament. More info here.
The new Dilworth Park holds Oktoberfest on Saturday, which should be a day full of beer, food, music and more. There is a new cash-only beer garden, DJ’s, live music and plenty of family-friendly activities lined up…more info here.
Reading Terminal Market Harvest Festival is happening Saturday afternoon from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Filbert Street between 11th and 12th Streest. This city block will turn into an urban farm complete with corn stalks, a pumpkin patch, hay bales, and hayrides! Molly Malloy will host an outdoor beer garden in case the parents out there need a drink! Tons of good food will be available from the Market’s vendors….more info here.
Haddonfield NJ has their annual Fall Festival and Craft Show on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5 p.m.. Community groups and artisans participate in this event, which takes place along Kings Highway…more info here.
For live arts, check out the Strange Girls Festival. This takes place every third Saturday at Eris Temple Arts’ and is hosted by local riot noise act Dental Dames. This festival showcases unconventional musicians and artist, which include spoken-word, storytelling, dance, theater or video….more info here.
Sunday is the Under 30 Music Festival at 3:30 p.m. at the Piazza at Schmidt’s. Performances will include Afrojack, Wiz Khalifa, LP, and more. This festival helps to raise awareness and take action against global poverty…more info here.
Sunday at 7 a.m. is the 28th Annual Philly AIDs Walk/Run 5k. The run takes place along the scenic Martin Luther King Drive. Get some exercise for a good cause! More info here.
TEASER TIME: The BROadelphia teaser record is now 5-2. In the NCAA we like Kentucky and New Mexico. Tease Kentucky to a +16 vs. LSU and tease New Mexico to a +15.5 vs. Air Force.
