A Fan’s View: Weekend of 10/17/2014
THE FLYERS WON! Offense isn’t the Flyers problem, but we all knew that going into the season. Voracek looks to be growing into the player everyone hoped with 7 points in 5 games. Simmonds seems ready for a breakout season, too. If only the defense was seven years younger and quicker with better puck-handling skills. A fan can dream. I’m all for the terrible defense. Thank Sam Hinkie for that. This year’s NHL draft has a couple of kids who are supposed to be franchise cornerstones for years to come. They are Boston University’s center Jack Eichel and Erie Otters center Connor McDavid. Some analysts say there are three studs in this years draft and include Boston College defenseman Noah Hanifin. Any of the three would be a huge grab for the Flyers.
Will the 76ers win any games this year? Vegas thinks so. Vegas has the over/under on 76ers wins at 15.5, which is a game higher than it was two weeks ago. They are still clearly the worst team in the NBA. That should put the Sixers in a prime position to grab Emmanuel Mudiay. He’s the 6’5 guard that is playing in China and some are comparing to Russell Westbrook.
The Eagles bye week had me agreeing to some errands on Sunday, but still got a chance to survey the NFL landscape.
The Seahawks aren’t nearly as good as they were last year, defensively. That’s surprising.
The Giants are bad. Does that make Dallas’ wins over the Seahawks and Giants less impressive? Of course, I hate Dallas. Dez Bryant is a beast, though.
Colt McCoy really replaced Cousins at QB in Washington and lead them to a victory?
49ers are overrated too. That’s a game the Eagles should’ve won.
See the new Bill Murray movie, St. Vincent. Solid, feel-good movie where Murray is at his best. Here’s the video for the closing credits where his character jams out to Dylan.
The Jaguars won!
Had to go to PJ Whelihan’s in Cherry Hill for a childhood reunion. Man, that place was bonkers. Had to cruise the parking lot for fifteen minutes just to get a spot. Had a cover band playing of dudes who looked my dad’s age. They sounded okay, aside from the Gin Blossoms cover. Who wants to hear Gin Blossoms?
You suburban folks sure do drink a lot of Miller Lite and Coors Lite.
Hopefully, you saw my amazing performance on Philly Pheud, which aired a couple of times this weekend. We got screwed. How is Charles Barkley not a top 5 76er of all time? Paul Arizin was #5? He didn’t even play for the 76ers. He’s a Warrior. Hoop Doctors are clueless. Ended up taking that $100 in consolation prize slot dollars for Sugar House and turning it into $167.00
Don’t forget the Philly Film Festival is going on all week. Great reason to get out of the house.
