BROadelphia Goes Jawnville
When I started the BROadelphia blog a couple of years ago, I thought only my friends would spend their time reading the articles, rants and posting of violations, etc. Those friends shared articles. Listeners to talk radio checked out the site and they shared articles. My wonderfully supportive twitter family spread the word with an overwhelming amount of retweets.
My first Open Letter to the Eagles’ front office kicked the BROadelphia doors wide open. Subsequent ones were even more popular and some were viewed by over 90,000 people. Since then, BROadelphia has been lucky enough to have over 8,000 unique hits a month.
The sport articles aren’t the deepest of analysis. They are simply meant to be the informed voice of a Philly-born-and-raised sports fan. I try to share fun happenings in the city, good food and drink options, promote Philly individuals, and a bunch of other random wackiness. Hopefully, they provide some form of entertainment or work distraction.
Because of the variety of posts, I thought the blog needed a different name than BROadelphia, especially one that was welcoming to the great female Philadelphians and sports fans. The site needed a name that was both all-encompassing and stuck true to it’s Philadelphia roots.
To me, no word is more Philadelphia than “jawn.” Okay, maybe “YO”, but I’m a bigger fan of jawn. As nett on Urban Dictionary describes, Jawn is “a word used by people in Philly, it can mean anything, like a fine girl, a blunt, really, it can be used for everything.”
Merriam-Webster defines “ville” as “a place, category or quality specific in nature.” Perfect. This site has evolved into a place of jawn…JAWNVILLE.
Hence, BROadelphia is now Jawnville. As with my posts, some of you will hate the change and some may like it, but it’s only a name. As Bill Shakespeare said,
What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Yeah, I just went Shakespeare on ya. I hope you continue to allow me the chance to entertain and distract you in 2015. Thanks, again. Happy New Year & Welcome to Jawnville!
