How Bad Are the Flyers?

i-3Another Flyers season has come and one. They aren’t in the Playoffs for the second time in the past three seasons. They lost their final game to Ottawa, a team going in the completely opposite direction. The Senators have gone 23-4-4 in their final 31 games to clinch a Postseason birth.

I ate crow in the Flyers season preview by stating that Craig Berube was far better than I thought. Turns out I should’ve held out a little before that crow feast.  No doubt, the Flyers lack talent, but Berube has done nothing to stand out as a head coach.

I know die-hard Flyers fans who think they are just a player or two away. They may be right if the Flyers land McDavid or Eichel in this year’s draft. Barring that, they are far worse than some fans believe. They were also worse than many experts thought. That has to be a sign that the coaching wasn’t where it needed to be, right?

The Flyers are worse than ESPN thought. Going into the season, ESPN ranked the Flyers 22nd in their Power Rankings. They finished 24th.

Last year, the Flyers ranked 8th in goals scored with 233. They were worse than that this year as they finished the season ranked 21st with 212 goals.

The Flyers are worse than the The Hockey News thought at the beginning of the season. THN predicted that the Flyers would finish 5th in the Metropolitan Division. They finished in 6th place.

The Flyers are worse than Vegas thought at they set the over/under line for wins at 38.5 wins. They Flyers weren’t really close with 33.

Here’s to hoping that Ed Snider stays in California or wherever he’s living and he, as well as Paul Holmgren, lose Ron Hextall’s number so that Hexy to build this team without any old-head meddling. The NHL has passed both of them by…years ago.

On the positive side, the Flyers has a 6.5% chance at winning the NHL’s Draft Lottery and getting the #1 overall pick to use on Connor McDavid. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s the same odds you’d have at powerball if you bought 11,389,528 tickets. Imagine how geeked up for the Powerball drawing you’d be if you have 11 million tickets. I’m just saying the Flyers have a chance. Let’s be optimistic until Saturday, when they lottery actually happens.
