Philly Weekend Picks 6/12

Jawnville’s Philly Weekend picks of activites around town is here…a little late on Friday, but here.

BEER GARDENS! BEER GARDENS! BEER GARDENS! Hit them up all weekend and hydrate yourself around the city. PHS has beer gardens at 1438 South Street and 829 Wharton StreetThere is the Independence Beer Garden w at 100 Independence Mall West. The Point Breeze Pop-up at 1622 Point Breeze Ave. and of course Spruce Street Harbor Park.

Even if you don’t drink Beer, these are good spots to be outside in the community and have some water and grub, etc.

We didn’t find anything Jawnville Approved for Friday so we are saying hit the beer gardens or maybe take in a flick at the Ritz.

SATURDAY:

ART FOR THE CASH POOR is happening both Saturday and Sunday. This is a great event that brings together bands, vendors, and artists. The weekend party showcases the work of over 100 artists (jewelry, painting, photography, fashion, etc) and none of the pieces are over $199. Actually, most of the stuff is well under $99. Need a piece for your room, house and got $20? No problem, here. There will be food trucks and the dudes from Kung Fu Hoagies will be there! That’s worth the trip alone, if you’re vegetarian. The event goes noon-6:00 p.m.

ARTspiration takes over the 700 block of Catherine Street in Bella Vista. This is an annual festival brought to you by the people over at Fleisher Art Memorial. The festival includes family-friendly activities include art-making led by local artists, Fleisher faculty, and volunteers; musical and dance performances; and a variety of activities hosted by community partners. The event runs 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

PANCAKES AND BOOZE at the Underground Arts Saturday June 13th! This event was established in 2009 combines pa ncakes and booze with exhibits by some of the country’s best emerging artists. It’s a pop-up art festival with all-you-ca-eat pancakes. Get your culture and your drink on! Tickets are $5. Doors are 8:00 p.m.

SEX DWARF at Voyeur Saturday night at 10:00 p.m. celebrates the year 1982. Sex Dwarf is the Philly’s premier new wave dance party and I’m pretty sure I’ve always gone on Sunday nights. However, DJ Robert Drake and the crew are partying this Saturday and celebrating the fashion and music of 1982. These parties are always a good crowd with fun people. There’s a $5 cover.

TJ KONG DOES AN EVENING OF TOM WAITS at Ubahn (1320 Chestnut Street). Kong is one of the better local performers and, with his voice, a night of Tom Waits songs is the perfect combination. Kong does a great job so Waits fans should check it out. It’s free. He’s on at 8:00 p.m.
