A Fan’s View: Eagles Colts Preseason Recap
It’s a football Monday and time for an Eagles Colts recap. I’m not giving you detailed analysis of the Eagles/Colts preseason game. If you’re looking for that, check out www.bleedinggreennation.com. Those guys do a heck of a job.
-Yo, is everyone at the beach? Restaurants and bars have been dead all weekend, but I never thought the Link would be as half-filled as it was. This is a photo just before kickoff. I know it filled in a bit as the game went on, but still.
-Bitter, discarded players can say Chip Kelly doesn’t like Black players, but they can’t say the man doesn’t like black clothing. The dude is like a ninja in all black on a sunny day with field temperatures over 100 degrees. I hope he’s wearing a dehydration monitor on days like this. Vera Wang designs the Eagles cheerleaders’ uniforms. Chip Kelly wears House of Johnny Cash threads exclusively.
-I think I’m over the Rocky theme song prior to kickoff. It should be retired along with the Kate Smith God Bless America, and that song was associated with championships!
-The Eagles’ defensive line looked ridiculous at stopping the run. However, the Colts ranked 22nd in rushing last year and it doesn’t look like they’ve improved much. Frank Gore didn’t play, but the Colts line just looked inept vs the Eagles D line.
-What advertising consultant/company fleeced Monmouth University by giving them the ridiculous idea to by ads during the Eagles game. For a moment, I thought I was watching a Monmouth football game where they insert an ad hyping up the school. Monmouth for the Philly market? It was basically a recruiting ad for Monmouth Athletics. Really? Who the hell from Philly wants to go to Monmouth and have to deal with NY Giants, Yankees, Devils, Rangers fans? Might as well as tossed that money into a shredder. By the way, the football stadium looks like a high school facility.
-Chip has the Eagles run the 3 person weave basketball drill with footballs in pre-game warmups? I didn’t need to see that. The 10 year olds at the rec center where I coach run better weaves than that sloppy mess. Bad spacing. Way too close.
-Don’t know how I feel about the Eagles selling personalized bricks on the Fan Walk. These things seems pretty corny and does a franchise worth over a billion dollars need to milk a couple of bucks from their loyal fans who have yet to see a Super Bowl? Maybe just put the names of the first 100 season ticket holders and then the longest-running season ticket holders? I know a portion of the net proceeds go to the Eagles Youth Partnership, but they never tell us how much that portion is. It could be 5%.
-Who’s Jeremy Maclin? I mean no disrepect, but Nelson Agholor looks like the real deal. Almost thought Harold Carmichael was wearing 17 and skying for a catch.
-God, yes god, I love Tebow with the Eagles. I don’t know why, but it’s fun. Who doesn’t like an underdog story like Tebow making another try at the NFL. Loved that he had to quiet the crowd in a preseason game. Kudos to the fans there for having fun with the guy.
-Mike Mayock likes checkered pattern clothing. The checkered tie on checkered shirt was a bit much. He’s gotta go solid tie on a busy shirt like that. Fashion 101.
-Eagles Special Teams are brilliant. Extend Special Teams coach Dave Fipp NOW!
-Who doesn’t love Ed Reynolds?
-Big news seems to be that Marcus Smith doesn’t suck as bad as last year. Really? Dude played more snaps than pretty much anyone and had one tackle? Most of his rush moves looked weak and how many times was he on his ass?
-Who told this dude the Chiefs were playing?
-Don’t like the gold 50 yard line or NFL shields.
-Is my man wearing an Eagles QB red practice jersey to the game? If so, his buddies need to hold an intervention.
