A Fan’s View: Eagles Ravens Preseason

The Eagles, once again, looked better prepared, more skilled, deeper and more aggressive than their opponent. I know it’s only week two of the preseason, but there has been a drastic and obvious difference among the backups. The Eagles look hungrier and more talented. Chip The Personnel Guy might be onto something. For a detailed analysis on the game, don’t forget to check out the fine work of Bleeding Green Nation. It’s time for a fans view of the Eagles Ravens Preseason game.

-I still don’t know if I dig Scott Graham‘s voice for the play-by-play of football games. There’s something about his voice that seems awkward. He calls a good game. For me, his voice sounds or feels better-suited for highlight reels than live game-calling.

Dave Spadaro is a good guy who loves his Eagles, but would it kill the Eagles Network to add a woman to the broadcast? Can we find a local female broadcaster to do the sideline reporting? Does Dave also have to color coordinate his shirts with Eagles’ gameday staff shirts? We know you’re a team spokesperson, but maybe hiding it a little might make us viewers believe his reporting is somewhat objective. Just play along with us!

-Is Howard Eskin colorblind? He’s rockin’ orange Beats headphones with a pink Easter-style jacket? Not the greatest look for the King on Saturday night. His hair also had a Seinfeld low-flow showerhead look to it. Eskin has enough not to buy into the Beats hype so why isn’t he using a pair of Sennheisers or Beyerdynamics. He looking for street cred? What’s he listening to anyway?

-Is there a receiver for the Eagles wide open on every passing play? Feels like it. I made the old joke on twitter “the Eagles wide receivers are like 7-11 because they’re always open” and took some heat for not going Wawa. Whatever!

Captain Obvious says: the secondary looks much improved.

Brandon Graham looks like a different player. He’s aggressive and flying to the ball.

Steve Smith would’ve been a player that Philadelphians would’ve loved had he played here. Gotta love that he’s yapping in Nelson Agholor’s face after he couldn’t hold onto a catch along the Ravens’ sideline.

Nolan Carroll made a great play on the Thurman interception. We see so many defensive backs get called for pass interference for raising their hands without turning for the ball. Carroll, a step behind the receiver, turned his head, found the ball, and deflected it with his extended arm.

-This guy is way too happy in the Wawa commercial during the game.

Terrell Suggs is a JO, but it’s those JO’s that make football interesting. The NFL always needs good heels.

-I’m a shady-hater so I’m definitely biased, but DeMarco Murray looked to hit the hole way quicker in his first appearance.

-Mike Mayock might be in love with Sproles. Can you blame him?

-The Eagles might have the best defensive front in the NFL and they might have the best Running Back combination. D-lines and rushing games win in the NFL.

-What is with these university commercials during the preseason games? Last week we covered Monmouth’s bad commercial, which they ran again. This week, Temple added itself to the mix. The copy couldn’t get more corny: “A world without Temple..well…that’s like the sky without the North Star….Temple, never stopping.” The sky without the North Star? C’mon. Temple…never stopping? Suddenly, I’m longing for the “I chose Temple” commercials of years gone by.

-In a perfect world, we’ll only see those Eagles Fan Walk commercials for two more weeks. I can’t say that same about that Verizon commercial with the birds.

-Is this a foreshadowing of the Eagles quarterback personnel on Week 1? This was happening while the Eagles were on defense. Someone forgot to tell Barkley a meeting was going on.

Mike Mayock is at it again with his checked shirts and patterned tie. Too much…too much! That’s two weeks in a row.

-Wide Receiver Seyi Ajirotutu had a rough game.

-On the other hand, Roxborough High and Delaware Valley University’s Rasheed Bailey looked impressive. The DIII kid looked like he belonged on the field. He’s got nice size at 6’2″ 205lbs. It would be nice if he sticks around on the practice squad.

-No…just no! The friends of these two guys have a responsibility to stop this. These guys had to have lost a bet, right? I love how they accessorized the coneheads with Mardi Gras beads!

-Do you think this Tebow lady also has the a green Tebow jersey? She’s double-dipping with the white and black. This is amazing! How much money has this woman dropped on jerseys for a guy who hasn’t even made the team yet??!!

-Wrong dude here.

-Gotta love a kid comfortable enough in his own skin to rock a 76ers jersey to an Eagles game when everyone around him is in green!

Tebow looked pretty ordinary, missing a couple wide open receivers.

Until next week…thanks for reading and sharing!
