The Eagles Now!

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.”
― Eckhart Tolle

Eagles Now

The Eagles are tied for first place with three games to go in the 2015 NFL season. They are on Sunday Night Football against the Cardinals. And, the Eagles basically control their own destiny. That’s all that matters.

Maybe a recent trip to an island has me in a carefree, zen-like state of mind. I feel grounded. I’m also reading The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. That might be helping with my peaceful sports mind.

He talks about mental time gaps about the future and the past. When our minds are in the past, that’s usually depression. When our minds worry about the future, that causes anxiety.

Eckhart Tolle talks about minds gaps when your mind goes to the future or the past. When our minds are in the past that leads to depression. Minds in the future can cause anxiety. As Eagles fans, we suffer from both anxiety and depression, sometimes simultaneously.

How many times have we gone over missed draft picks from years past or management decisions like Chip becoming GM? This week on sportsradio I heard talk about the future and whether or not to sign/extend Sam Bradford. I tend to do it on a daily basis so I’m both depressed and anxious. That’s a tough mental state to treat, needing uppers and downers at the same time.

The best we can do is live in the Eagles now, this week. What has happened in the past this season, doesn’t exist any longer. The Eagles have a new 3 game season where they have to be one game better than the Redskins and Giants, with games at hand.

There was a time this season where it seemed like Eagles fans would have nothing to cheer for and now they’re in their own driver’s seat. Let the concerns of the past and worries about next year drift away so you can truly enjoy this 3 game ride. Embrace the Now. Enjoy the Eagles Now.
