Dear Diary,

Not a real happy day. Feeling kind of dejected.

I’m resigned to accept that Doug Pederson is going to be the new Eagles coach. What other conclusion could I arrive at. They’ve interviewed people and are now stopping for the owners’ meeting. This was after Jeff Lurie told us it was important to get a head start on the process. The only reason to stop would be that they’ve found their man. The only candidate that they’ve interviewed, who cannot currently accept the job, is Doug Pederson, since his season is still ongoing.

I think of all the candidates out there in the NFL circle, I couldn’t be less enthusiastic about Pat Shurmur or Doug Pederson. I don’t see me getting fired up for training camp with Doug Pederson leading the way. This feels like a company guy or nepotism from Reid’s connections instead of the best man for the job.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the end of the Reid era. I don’t want one of his disciples. It feels like we’ve been through this before with Ed Snider clinging to his glory days and forcing the old guard down our throats for decades without a Stanley Cup. At least Snider’s guys actually won a Championship. Reid never touched the Lombardi Trophy as an Eagle.

It’s hard to understand how an “offensive coordinator” from the 27th ranked offense in the NFL is a leading candidate. The Chiefs lost their best player in Jamaal Charles, but come on! 27th? The Baltimore Ravens put up the 14th most yard this year while losing Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco, TE Dennis Pitta, WR Steve Smith, RB Justin Forsett, and WR Breshad Perriman. That’s impressive.

The Eagles quarterbacks weren’t even anything special while Pederson was the QB coach in ’11 and ’12. Foles looked far better under Chip Kelly and his staff.

My friend’s in Pittsburgh have it too good. How do the Steelers do it? I know they always pick young defensive coordinators for their head coach. They have Big Ben, but for f**k sake, they got to the Super Bowl with Neil O’Donnell?

While I try to accept that Doug Pederson is going to be the next Eagles head coach, yippeee, hype videos like the one below clog my Facebook timeline thanks to my friends in Western PA. It’s a decent hype video, too. Bastards!
