Phillies Nickel-and-Diming Fans?

The Phillies won 63 games in 2015. On current wager site, the 2016 over and under for wins is 64.5 on some books. The Phillies Opening Day payroll for 2016 looks to be over $50M lower than it was in 2015. This begs the question, why nickel-and-dime fans who want to keep their season tickets and/or buy individual game tickets?

Here’s my 2015 Phillies Season Ticket invoice:

And here is my 2016 Season Ticket Invoice:

There isn’t much of an increase from $2154.00 to $2193.00, but it’s still an increase of $0.76 per ticket on my 17-game plan for a last place team that isn’t expected to be any better and has an Opening Day payroll about 35% less.

Here is my receipt for Opening Day tickets for 2016:

The Phillies are charging a per ticket fee of $5. For what? Why is there an almost 10% fee charged for each ticket purchased via the internet? Then, they add a $4.50 Per Order Charge. Seriously? A per ticket fee and a per order charge? I ended up paying 12.2% in fees and charges. This wasn’t Stubhub, but through the Phillies site. That’s ridiculous.

Last year, the Phillies had the fourth highest average ticket price. Is there really a need to increase ticket prices, even if it’s only $0.76 a ticket? Of course not, other than pure greed.

It’s going to be a long year at the ballpark. How about financially rewarding the loyal fans who are still financially supporting the team instead of grabbing every dime you can out of us? Just keep the ticket prices flat and lose that “per ticket fee.” It’s not a good look for a currently bottom-feeding team. This is a stone VIOLATION!
