No Good Reason to Reconsider Sentence in Center City Assault
Is Kathryn Knott crazy or is it her attorney? She was recently convicted for her part in a brutal gang-like attack on two individuals in center city Philly. She did not strike a plea deal like the other defendants, who received probation, and was sentenced to 5-10 months in prison. As reported in a Philly Voice article, Knott is now asking the judge reconsider her sentence.
Her attorney is asking for a probation sentence similar to her codefendants, the ones who struck a plea deal. Isn’t that how a plea deal works? You plea and the courts give you a deal, no jail time in this case. Why would Ms. Knott be deserving of the same without a deal? What world is she living in?
Instead, she took up the court’s time, prosecutors’ time, police officers’ time and incurred additional costs on the city of Philadelphia, due to her unwillingness to accept responsibility for her actions and accept a plea deal. That’s time and costs that her codefendants did not put on the city. Duh, of course her sentence is harsher.
According to her attorney: (via PhillyVoice.com)
[Knott] has learned a lot in the 18 months” between the incident and the trial, adding that the community and city could benefit from a sentence that includes community service or a public service announcement.
Ms. Knott’s father is the police chief of Chalfont. I’m pretty sure that he would want more than a PSA or some community service if a group of goons from Philly rolled into Chalfont and viciously beat-up a couple walking through the streets of Chalfton.
Ms. Knott wasn’t too forgiving when she claimed someone “ran her off the road.” According to her twitter account, which PhillyMag reported, she gave her dad the car’s license plate number and got the guy a ticket. That guy did not get to do a PSA about driving responsibly in Chalfont!
Her spoiled and entitled act couldn’t help her in the Philly courts, rightfully so. This wasn’t vandalism or reckless driving, but a brutal attack on two humans. Her group callously left the victims on the street while they continued with there night.
Ms. Knott should serve her time and stay out of our city. She wants to do a PSA to help this from happening in the future or wishes to do community service? She can certainly do that after she gets out. That would show true remorse and maturity. Unfortunately, I have a feeling she only wants to do those jawns to get out of jail and not for the right reasons. Time will tell. I hope I’m wrong.
