I Hope Eagles Coach Doug Pederson Changed His Mind
I realize it’s August and the sports story lines are few and far between, but who gives a sh*t if Doug Pederson changed his mind on tackling or if he always planned to have the team tackle for a week or so and then ease up as the first game approached. Writers and talk radio have been attempting to get to the bottom of this engrossing mystery.
Seriously, what does it matter? In fact, I actually hope that he planned full contact tackling for the next four weeks and then changed his mind. How long did we, as a fan base, complain about Andy Reid and Chip Kelly being stubborn and stuck in their ways? Whether it was a need of a wide receiver, passing the ball too often, or exhausting their defense by running an ineffective hurry-up offense we’ve seen stubbornness in an Eagles Head Coach for far too long.
Good coaches adapt. If Doug Pederson had planned for tackling and full contact for the next few weeks and then changed course after getting a feel for his squad and talking with coaches and players, then HALLELUJAH! We’ve been waiting for like 16 years for a football coach in town that’s flexible and doesn’t think he knows everything.
Reading his team and making adjustments is fine by me. I can’t, for the life of me, see this as being a big deal at all. If anything, it’s a good thing and I like it.
If I need drama, I’ll watch Housewives of Orange County.
Let’s be real, the Vegas over/under is 6.5 wins and that was before bonehead Lane Johnson got suspended. Eagles weren’t contending with or without tackling in training camp.
Now sit back and relax with the musical styling of Leonard Cohen.
