Local Hardware Legend Goes Video
In Philadelphia, we are lucky enough to have some of the best mom-and-pop hardware stores in America. In fact, Popular Mechanics selected three Philly stores for their The Best Hardware Stores in America list: Rittenhouse Hardware, 10th Street Hardware, and Cohen & Co Hardware.
Which brings us to Mitchell Cohen of Cohen & Co Hardware. For me, his personality sets him at the top of my Hardware Store List. He’s part hardware store owner, part Philadelphia Historian, and part comedian. Mitchell, or Mitchy Tools as he was nicknamed by Anthony Gargano, morning host on 97.5 the Fanatic, would call in with a sports question, but always add an impersonation, usually of a classic actress. His best impersonation had to be Michelle Pfeiffer as Elvira in Scarface. In addition to that, he’s always promoting his community and other local businesses in his shop. Mitchy is an all-around nice guy.
Mitchy Tools doesn’t call into the Gargano’s show as often since he switched from afternoon radio to mornings. Luckily, we have a new way to enjoy the charmingly quirky Mitchell–Instagram.
I cannot encourage you enough to check out his almost daily video postings. They may be the most entertaining things I have been watching this week. In fact, I binge-watched them during the snow day. I cannot get enough of his “hey gang” and constant crazy references. He’s crazy for his tulip prices, crazy for his prices on roses, and the weather is crazy!! Oh, and he’s really concerned about everyone’s safety: “be safe out there guys.”
