Around Jawnville: Driftwood Soldier on the Rise

This isn’t the first time we’ve mentioned Driftwood Soldier and probably won’t be the last. The gutter-folk duo from West Philly have been riding a wave of upward momentum over the past few months. They opened for Charlie Parr at Boot and Saddle at the end of last year, recorded some b-sides with studio time they won in a national songwriting competition—they’ve released one b-side over the past 8 Mondays via social media—did a couple of tours through the Northeast & New England areas, were just featured on WXPN’s Folk Show with Ian Zolitor, and are preparing to go into the studio to record a new album.

You can listen to the Folk Show appearance, which features an interview and three in-studio performances HERE.

They’ve also released their latest entry into NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest for the song Sunny Side, which you can watch below. It was filmed in West Philly’s infamous Fiume Bar, which may rival Monk’s for the best beer selection in the city.

Check them out on Instagram, Facebook, Spotify, or bandcamp to stay up to date on upcoming shows and new music. Life becomes more enjoyable with this duo providing music to your soundtrack. We should be seeing a lot more from this talented duo in 2018 and beyond.

In the meantime, check out last year’s Tiny Desk entry and a cover of The Zutons song “Valerie” (a la Amy Winehouse).
