Embiid Among Leaders in Post-Up Touches
The 76ers had a big win yesterday vs. the East-leading Milwaukee Bucks. Joel Embiid put up 40 points and 15 rebounds. He looked dominant. He did attempt thirteen 3-pointers, making four of them, and that’s the focus for some fans calling into sports-radio.
I watched yesterday’s game at a local pub and heard multiple GROANS and “NOOOOOs” every time Embiid launched a 3. It’s an ongoing storyline. I don’t think I can watch a 76ers game in public without someone complaining about Embiid’s 3-point attempts and him not posting up enough.
The NBA game has changed. It’s more of an up-and-down, pick-and-roll game. The days of the big man just standing on the block in the post waiting for the ball is long gone. That being said, Embiid still spends quite a bit of time in the post by today’s NBA standards.
According to Post-Up stats on NBA.com, only Karl-Anthony Towns and LaMarcus Aldridge average more post-up touches per game than Embiid. See for yourself:
Just a nugget of information to keep in mind when you feel compelled to complain or hear someone complaining about Embiid’s post-time. It’s all relative.
