They’re Stealing Cats in South Philly

The bastards got me. I read about it on the Next Door. I saw news pieces on the internet discussing the threat. And, when I started my car to head to the grocery store, my Honda Element sounded like a parade of Harley Davidsons.

The bastards stole my catalytic converter.

This is not an isolated event in South Philly. “They stole your cat,” was the first thing one of the guys at my local repair shop yelled to me after my car rumbled in. My mechanic said that I was his fifth customer in the past couple of months with a stolen catalytic converter. Cars and SUVs that sit higher off the ground, like my Element, are targeted due to the ease of getting underneath and cutting the part out with a Sawzall. Beware, folks.

Apparently, the part can fetch thieves upwards of $200 with metal recycling scrap yards. Thieves will be thieves, but who are these scumbag recycling joints that are paying folks for stolen catalytic converters. These scrapyard recycling people are the issue. F*ck them!

I’m lucky enough to have insurance, which is covering most of the $1200 in replacement costs. I’d be in a real bind if I didn’t have comprehensive insurance on my 16-year-old vehicle. On second thought, F*ck the thieves too because that’s a real kick in the junk for most people in these turbulent times.

Good luck people. May your catalytic converters remain safe!
