Great New Philly Music Venue

Philly, specifically Roxborough/Manayunk, has a new BYOB music venue that you should check out. The Philly Folksong Society, the folks behind the Philadelphia Folk Festival, has moved its offices to 6156 Ridge Avenue to a great building that also houses an intimate and comfortable music venue.

The Society is putting on a bunch of shows at the new venue and I highly recommend checking the place out. I made the trek from center city a couple weeks ago for the first of their Philly Co-Op First Friday series. Every First Friday the Society has a couple of Philly Co-Op artists perform for $10. It’s cheaper for members of the Society. I was lucky enough to check out Driftwood Soldier and Apes of the State. Both were great performances, as is indicative of most of the Philly Co-Op artists. First Friday performances are early, too. Shows start at 6:30.

The BYOB aspect of this venue cannot be understated. We saw folks bring wine and cheese to enjoy during the performances. There is a Foodery a couple of doors down so you can grab a couple of great beers are reasonable prices. There is also a Santucci’s Original Square Pizza a couple of doors away. Pizza doesn’t get much better than that.

When you do visit, try sitting upstairs. There’s a balcony with a great view of the performances.

Check out their calendar and find a show to go to or just get to one of their First Friday jawns. You won’t be disappointed.
