Movie Review: It Follows
Born and raised on horror films, I find it difficult to resist heading to the theaters to see a new release in the genre. This week, I ventured into the Riverview to take in It Follows. Here’s the preview, if you’re not familiar:
The premise is that a girl has sex with a guy. He then tells her about this “it,” an evil force or spirit, that will now seek to kill her. Apparently, this is like a game of tag and the guy she had sex with bascially just made her the it that “it” follows. Exactly. If “it” kills her, then he becomes it again.
The story is a bit flawed. You don’t know why this “it” has started and never really find out what “it” is. The guy who has sex with her and makes her the center of “it’s” attention seems to know all the rules of what “it” can do, but doesn’t even know who gave “it” to him. So that doesn’t really make sense.
I liked the music. There are solid suspense scenes. The acting is solid for a bunch of people I’ve never seen before. In the end, I’d recommend it as a fun night out at the theater if youre into horror movies.
A solid 3 out of 5.
